âThe Gauḍī, again, is of bombastic construction with letters manifesting Ōjas and
abounding in compounds.â
(Commentary)
....................âFor example chañchad-bhuja etc.â
The question no arises: What are the characteristics of this Ōjas, which here is obviously
a Śabda-guṇa and has to be distinguished from Ōjas as Artha-guṇa which we have considered
above. The former is thus described in the Sāhityadarpaṇa (VIII, 4-5) :

....................Vīra-Bībhatsa-Raudrēshu kramēṇ=ādhikyam=asya tu |

Asya Ōjasaḥ | atr=āpi Vīr-ādi śabdā upalakshaṇāni | tēna Vīr-ābhās-ādāv=apy=asy=āvasthitiḥ |

....................Vargasy=ādya-tṛitīyābhyāṁ yuktau varṇau tad-antimau || 5 ||
....................upary-adhō dvayōr=vā sa-rēphaḥ ṭa-ṭha-ḍa-ḍhaiḥ saha |
....................śakāraś=cha shakāraś=cha tasya vyañjakatāṁ gatāḥ || 6 ||

âThe blazing-up of mind assuming dilation is termed Vigour (Ōjas). Of this, there is an
ascendancy successively greater, in the Heroic, the Disgustful and the Furious.â
(Commentary)
â âOf thisâ means âof Vigourâ. Here also the terms Heroic, etc., are used in a comprehensive
sense so that it may be comprised in the Semblance of the Heroic and so forth.â
