EPIGRAPHIA INDICA

The inscription mentions a following of Bûtuga’s, named Maṇalera, ‘ lord of Valabhi,’ the Sagara vaṁśa.─ A subsidiary record on the stone states that Bûtuga killed Râchamall [I.], the son of Ereyapa, and that it was Bûtuga who treacherously stabbed Râjâdiitya.

96.─Ś. 873.─Ind. Ant. Vol. XII. p. 257. Soraṭûr Kanarese inscription of the reign of the Mahârâjâdhirâja Akâlavarsha Kannaradêva (i.e. the Râshṭrakûṭa Kṛishṇarâja III.) :─

(L. 4),─Sa(śa)kanṛipakâḷ-âkrânta-saṁvatsara-sa(śa)taṁga[ḷ*] 873 Virôdhi[kṛit*]- saṁvatsarada Mârggaśira-mâsada puṇṇameyum=Âdityavâramuṁ Rôhiṇi(ṇî)-nakshatramuṁ śô(sô)magrahaṇad=andu.

97.─Ś. 876*.─Supplied by Dr. Fleet.[1] Date of a Chiñchli (in Dhârwâr district) Kanarese inscription of the time of the Râshṭrakûṭa Kṛishṇarâja III. :─

Sa(śa)kabhûpâḷakâḷ-âkrânta-saṁvatsara-sa(śa)taṁgaḷ eṇṭu-nûr-elpatt-âraneya Ânanda-saṁvatsarada Vaiśakha-su(śu)ddha-bidige Sômavâramuṁ Mṛigaśira-nakshatramum=âge(? gi). Monday, 18th April A.D. 953.[2]

98.─Ś. 880.─ Ep. Ind. Vol. IV. p. 281, and Plate. Karhâḍ plates[3] of the Râshṭrakûṭa Mahârâjâdhirâja Kṛishṇarâja III. Akâlavarsha, the successor of the Mahârâjâdhirâja Amôghavarsha III., issued from Mêlpâṭî :─<

(L.56).─Śaka[nṛi]pakâl-[â*]tîta-[saṁ]vatsara-śatêshv=ashṭasv=a[śi]ty-adhikêshu Kâlayukta-saṁvatsar-ântarggata-Ph[â]lguna-va(ba)hula-trayôdasyâṁ(śyâṁ) Vu(bu)dhê. Wednesday, 9th March A.D. 959.[4]

Genealogy as in No. 93. Kṛishṇarâja III. conquered [the Kalachuri-Chêdi] Sahasrârjuna, though he was an elderly relative of his wife and his mother ; he slew Dantiga and Vappuga ;[5] in Gaṅgapâṭî he deposed Rachhyâmalla (i.e. Râchamalla I.)[6] and put in his place Bhûtârya (i.e. Bûtuga II.) ; and he defeated the Pallava Aṇṇiga.

99.─Ś. 884*.─ Supplied by Dr. Fleet.[7] Date of a Dêvî-Hosûr (in Dhârwâr district) Kanarese inscription of the time of the Râshṭrakûṭa Kṛishṇarâja III. :─

Sa(śa)ka-varsha 884 Dundubhi-saṁvatsar-ântarggata-Pausha-su(śu)ddha-trayôdasi(śî) Âdityavâram=uttarâyaṇa-saṁkrântiy-andu.

Sunday, 22nd December A.D. 961[8] (with the Uttarâyaṇa-saṁkrânti on the next day, Monday).

100.­─South-Ind. Inscr. Vol. III. No. 7, p. 12. Ukkal (Vishṇu temple) Tamil inscription of the 16th year (of the reign) of the glorious Kaṇṇaradêva who conquered Kachchi (i.e. Kâñchipura) and Tañjai (i.e. Tañjâvûr), (i.e. the Râshṭrakûṭa Kṛishṇarâja III.).

101.─Ep. Ind. Vol. III. p. 284. Tirukkalukkunram Tamil inscription of the 17th year (of the reign) of the glorious Kannaradêva who conquered Kachchi and Tañjai (i.e. the Râshṭrakûṭa Kṛishṇarâja III.).

102.─ Ep. Ind. Vol. III. p. 285, and Plate. Tirukkalukkunram Tamil inscription of the 19the year (of the reign) of Kannaradêva who conquered Kachchi and Tañjai (i.e. the Râshṭrakûṭa Kṛishṇarâja III.).
