EPIGRAPHIA INDICA

Tribhuvanachakravartin, the glorious Kulaśêkharadêva [I.] who was pleased to take every country :─

‘ In the 27th year . . . on the day of Uttara-Phalgunî, which corresponded to the seventh tithi of the second fortnight, and to a Friday, and to the 14th solar day of the month of Dhanus.

[Ś. 1218] : Friday, 10th December A.D. 1294[1]

921.─ Ep. Ind. Vol. VI. p. 310, No. 22. Date of a Kaḍappêri (Śvêtâraṇyêśvara temple) Tamil inscription of the 40th year (of the reign) of king Mâravarman (alias) the Tribhuvanachakravartin, the glorious Kulaśêkharadêva [I.] :─

‘ In the 40th year . . . on the day of Rêvatî, which corresponded to a Saturday and to the second tithi of the first fortnight of the month of Mîna.’

[Ś. 1229] : Saturday, 24th February A.D. 1308.

922.─Ep. Ind. Vol. VI. p. 313, No. 29. Date of Gaṅgaikoṇḍaśôlapuram (Bṛihadîśvara temple) Tamil inscription of the 4th year ( of the reign) of king Mâ[ravarman alias] the Tribhuvanachakravartin, the glorious Kulaśêkharadêva [II.] :─[2] ‘ In the 4th year . . . on the day of Uttarâshâḍhâ, which corresponded to a Saturday and to the fourteenth tithi of the first fortnight of the month of Karkaṭaka.’

[Ś. 1239] : Saturday, 23rd July A.D. 1317.

923.─ Ep. Ind. Vol. VI. p. 313, No. 30. Date of a Gaṅgaikoṇḍaśôlapuram (Bṛihadîśvara temple) Tamil inscription of the 5th year (of the reign) of king Mâravarman (alias) the Tribhuvanachakravartin, the glorious Kulaśêkharadêva [II] :─

‘ In the 5th year . . . on the day of Pushya, which corresponded to a Monday and to the thirteenth tithi of the first fortnight of the month of Siṁha.’

[Ś. 1240] : Monday, 5th March A.D. 1319 ; but the day fell in the month of Mîna, not Siṁha,[3] and the nakshatra on it was Pûrva-Phalgunî (Pûram), not Pushya (Pûśam). 924.─ Ep. Ind. Vol. VI. p. 312, No. 28. Date of a Tinnevelly (Nellaiyappar temple) Tamil inscription of the 8th year (of the reign) of the glorious king Mâravarman alias the Tribhuvanachakravartin, the glorious Kulaśêkharadêva [II] :─

‘ In the eighth year . . . on the day of Uttara-Phalgunî, which corresponded to a Saturday, and to the ninth tithi of the second fortnight, and to the seventeenth solar day of the month of Vṛiśchika.’ [Ś. 1243] : Saturday, 14th November A.D.1321.

925.─ Ś. 1262.─ Ep. Ind .Vol. VII. p. 11, No. 33. Date of a Śeṅgama (Ṛishabhêśvara temple) Tamil inscription of the 6th year (of the reign) of king Mâravarman (alias) the Tribhuvanachakravartin, the glorious Parâkrama-Pâṇḍyadêva :[4]

‘ After the Śaka year 1262 (had passed), in the 6th year . . . on the day of Uttara-Bhadrapadâ, which corresponded to a Wednesday and to the twelfth tithi of the first fortnight of the month of Vṛiśchika.’

Wednesday, 1st November A.D. 1340.

[1] On this day the tithi of the date commenced 4.h. 45 m. after mean sunrise.
[2] The accession of Mâravarman Kulaśêkhara II. took place between (approximately) the 6th March and the 23rd July A D. 1314.
[3] The wording of the date is intrinsically wrong.
[4] The accession of Mâravarman Parâkrama-Pâṇḍya took place between (approximately) the 1st December A.D 1334 and the 1st November A.D. 1335.
