979.─ Ś. 1203.─Ep. Ind. Vol. VI. p. 263. Śrîkûrmam (Kûrmêśvara temple) pillar inscription of Naraharitîrtha[1] (probably governor of the Kaliṅga country), the pupil of Ânandatîrtha (who explained the Vyâsa-sûtras in accordance with the principles of the Dvaita school), who was the pupil of Purushôttama-mahâtîrtha (who composed a bhashya) :─

(L. 15).─ . . Śaka-vatsarê hutavaha-vyôma-dvaya-kshmâ-yutê Mêshê śukla-Śaśâṁkka-śêkhara-[di]nê vârê [cha] Saumyê varê.

The date is irregular ; see ibid. p. 266.

980.─ Ś. 1205*.─ Inscr. at Śravaṇa-Beḷgoḷa, No. 129, p. 96. Sanskṛit and Kanarese inscription recording grants by Bâlachandradêva, disciple of the Mahâmaṇḍalâchârya Nâmichandra-paṇḍitadêva, and by others :─

S(śa)ka-varshaṁ 1205neya Chitrabhânu-saṁvatsara Śrâvaṇa-su 10 Bṛid=andu. Thursday, 16th July A.D. 1282 ; see Ind. Ant. Vol. XXIII. p. 128, No. 94.

981.─ Ś. 1235.─ Inscr. at Śravaṇa-Beḷgoḷa, No. 41, p. 11. Sanskṛit and Kanarese inscription recording the date of the death of Śubhachandramuni :─

Pañchatriṁśatsaṁyuta-śatadvayâdhika-sahasra-nuta-varshêshu | vṛittêshu Śaka-nṛipasya tu kâlê vistîrṇṇa-vilasad-arṇṇavanêmau || Pramâdi-vatsarê mâsê Śrâvaṇê tanum=atyajat | Vakrê kṛishṇa-chaturddaśyâṁ Śubhachandrô mahâyatiḥ ||

982.─ Ś. 1295*.─ Inscr. at Śravaṇa-Beḷgoḷa, No. 111, p. 86. Party illegible rock inscription, recording that some work or other was done by (?) Vardhamânasvâmin :─

Śaka-varsha 1295 Paridhâvi-saṁvatsara Vaiśâkha-śuddha 3 Budhavâra.

983.─ Ś. 1320*.─ Inscr. at Śravaṇa-Beḷgoḷa, No. 105, p. 76. Pillar inscription recording the date of the death of Purupaṇḍita, and the erection of a tomb for him by his disciple Abhinavapaṇḍitadêva ; preceded by a long account of Jaina teachers ; (composed by Arhaddâsa) :─

Tatra trayôdaśa-śataiś=cha daśa-dvayêna Śâkê=bdakê parimitê=bhavad=Îśvar-âkhyê | Mâghê chaturddaśa-tithau sitabhâji vârê Svâtau Śanais(nêḥ) surapadaṁ Purupaṇḍitasya || The date is irregular.

984.─ Ś. 1331.─ Inscr. at Śravaṇa-Beḷgoḷa, No. 106, p. 80. Sanskṛit and Kanarese inscription, recording a grant by a certain Mâyaṇṇa, a disciple of Chandrakîrti :─

Śaka-varusha 1331neya Virôdhi-saṁvatsarada Chaitra-ba 5 Gu.

985.─ Ś. 1353.─ Ep. Ind. Vol. VII. p. 110. Inscription on a colossal Jaina statue[3] at Kârkaḷa in the South Canara district, erected by Vîra-Pâṇḍya (Pâṇḍyarâya), the son of Bhairavêndra of the lineage of the Moon, by the advice of the Jaina priest Lalitakîrti :[4]

(L. 5).─ Svasti śrî-Śakabhûpatês=tri-śara-vahn-îṁdôr=Vvirôdhyâdikṛid-varshê Phâlguna-Saumyavâra-dhavala-śrî-dvâdaśî-sattithau.

(L. 14).─ Śaka-varsha 1353.

[1] In Ep. Ind. Vol. VI. p. 266 ff. are given the dates of five other inscriptions which record gifts of Narabaritîrtha ; one of them (No. 2) quotes the coincidence called Ardhôdaya and a solar eclipse which was visible in India ; another (No. 4), of Ś. 1215 (corresponding to the 21st May A.D. 1293), is of the 18th year of the reign of Vîra-śrî-Naranârasiṁhadêva (i.e. the Gaṅga king of Kaliṅga Narasiṁhadêva II. ; see North. Inscr. No. 367).─ Compare also Mr. Venkayya’s Report for 1900, p. 33.
