EPIGRAPHIA INDICA

Daṇḍanâyakiti Lakkale (Lakshmî, the wife of Gaṅgarâja) and lay-disciple of Śubhachandra-siddhântadêva ; and the erection of a pillar in his memory by his mother :[1]

Śaka-varusha 1037neya Vijaya-saṁvatsarada Vaiśâkha-su(śu)ddha 10 Ȃdityavârad=andu.

[Vijaya = Ś. 1035] : Sunday, 27th April A.D. 1113.

387.─Ś. 1037.─Inscr. at Śravaṇa-Beḷgoḷa, No. 47, p. 23. Sanskṛit and Kanarese inscription recording the date of the death of Mêghachandra-traividyadêva, the disciple of Sômadêva (Sakalachandra) ; and the erection of a monument in his memory by (the lay-disciple of his disciple Prabhâchandra-siddhântadêva) the Daṇḍanâyakiti Lakshmîmati (Lakshmî), the wife of Gaṅgarâja, minister of the Hoysaḷa Vishṇuvardhana :─

Sa(śa)ka-varshaṁ 1037neya Manmatha-saṁvatsarada Mârggaśira-su(śu)ddha 14 Bṛihavâraṁ Dhanur-llagnada pȗrvvâhṇad=âru-ghaḷiyey=app=âgaḷu.

388.─Ś. 1039.─PSOCI. No. 18 ; Mysore Inscr. No. 146, p. 260. Bêlȗr Sanskṛit and Kanarese plates of the Hoysaḷa Mahâmaṇḍalêśvara Vishṇuvardhana Tribhuvanamalla, ‘ lord of Dvârâvatî,’ reigning at Vêlâpura ( Bêlâpura), and his Paṭṭamahâdêvî Śântaladêvî :─

(L. 5 of side 9).─Śaka-varsha sâsirada-mȗvatt-oṁbhatte(tta)neya Hêmaḷaṁbi-saṁvatsarada Chaitra-śuddha-pañ­chamiy=Ȃdivâra.

The date is irregular.

In Yadu’s lineage (the legendary) Śala received the royal name Poysaḷa. Among the Poysaḷas, ‘ lords of Dvârâvatî,’ borh in Śaśapura, was Vinayâditya, who married Keḷeyabbe (Keḷeyaladêvî). Their son Ereyaṅga married Êchaladêvî ; their sons Ballâḷa [I.], Vishṇu (Vishṇuvardhana, also called Bhujabala-Gaṅga, defeated Jagaddêva[2] and Narasiṁha), and Udayâditya.

(Commencing with side 11 is an undated inscription of Vîra-Ballâḷa (Ballâḷa II.) ; and commencing with 1. 21 of side 12 is a short inscription of Narasiṁha III., dated ‘ Sunday, the fifth day of bright fortnight of Chaitra of the Ȃnanda saṁvatsara ;’ this date, for Ȃnanda = Ś. 1176, is irregular).

389.─Ś. 1039.─Inscr. at Śravaṇa-Beḷgoḷa, No.59, p. 56. Sanskṛit and Kanarese inscription[3] of the reign of the Hoysaḷa Mahâmaṇḍalêśvara Vishṇuvardhana Tribhuvanamalla, ‘ lord of Dvârâvatî ;’ recording a grant by his minister, the Daṇḍanâyaka Gaṅgarâja, which was confirmed by the Daṇḍanâyaka Êchirâja :─

Sa(śa)ka-varshaṁ 1039neye Hêmaṇambi-saṁvatsarada Phâlguṇa(na)-śuddha 5 Sômavârad = andu.

Mâra[4] married Mâkaṇabbe ; their son Êchaṁ (Êchirâja),[5] married Pôchikabbe ; their son Gaṅgarâja (defeated the army of the [W.] Châḷukya Chakravartin [Vikramâditya VI.] Tribhuvanamalla Permâḍidêva), married Lakshmîdêvî ; he was a lay-disciple of Śubhachandra-siddhântadêva.

390.─Ś. 1042*.─Inscr. at Śravaṇa-Beḷgoḷa, No. 49, p. 27. Sanskṛit and Kanarese inscription recording the date of the death of Dêmiyyaka (Dêmatî), the daughter of the Daṇḍanâyakiti Lakkale (Lakshmî, who was the mother of Bȗchirâja), wife of Châmuṇḍaśeṭṭi,
