CHĀNTĀU, UDIPI TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab set up in the prākāra of the Śaṅkaranārāyaṇa-svāmin temple

Harihara, 1404 A.D.

This record is dated Śaka 1[3]25, Svabhānu, Phālguṇa śu, 1, Sunday. The tithi corresponds to 1404 A.D., February 12 when the weekday was Tuesday.

It states that Śaṅkarāraṇya-śrīpāda, disciple of Vidyāraṇya-śrīpāda obtained a gift of land from Kuṁjūraṇṇa-uḷḷūra, Jātaṇṇa-upādhya, and Īśvara-uḷḷūra, and made it over to the temple of Śaṇkaranārāyṇa, of Niḍuvaṁpaḷḷi, in the village of Brahmūru when Mahābaḷadēva-voḍeya was governing Bārakūru.
