DONGALASĀNI, (HAMLET OF KURUGUṆṬPALLE) SIDDHAVATAM TALUK,
CUDDAPAH DISTRICT

Slab set up by the side of the Añjanēya temple

Nallachiddarasa, 1160 A.D.

       The inscription records that Nallachiddarasa (Nalla-siddharasa) ruling at Nellurupaṭṭaṇa, having started out on a campaign of victory, his subordinates Mahāpradhana, Sandhivigrahi Rēvaṇa-heggade and his brother Pōtaṇa-heggede encountered Mallidēva and Sōmēśvaradēva, the chiefs of Pottapidēśa at Dongalasāni; Somēśvaradēva along with twelve other chiefs and a thousand men and dispersing several others himself fell in the encounter. His brother Pōṭaṇa along with others, reported the success of the fight to his over lord Nallasiddha, installed perpetual lamps at the mahāsthānas of Mallikārjuna, Tripurāntaka, Siddhavaṭa, Aṇampura and Māhēśvara for the merit of his brother and himself. Rēvaṇa’s son Kāvaṇa, the record continues, consecrated an image of Vishṇu at the frontier of Peḍanāḍu for the merit of his father and his mother Dāramambikā1.

       The record is dated Śaka 1081, Pramādi, Māgha śu. 15, arddhōdaya which details correspond to 1160 A.D., January 25.

1        ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿಶ್ರೀಮನ್ಮಹಾಮಂಡಳೇಶ್ವರಂ ಕಾಂಚೀಪುರ-

2        ವರಾಧೀಶ್ವರಂ ಭುಜಬಳವೀರ ನಲ್ಲ[ಚಿ]ದ್ದರಸದೇವ-

3        ಚೋಳಮಹಾರಾಜರು ಉತ್ತರೋತ್ತರಾಭಿವ್ರಿದ್ಧಿ ಪ್ರವದ್ಧಮಾನ-

4        ಮಾಚಂದ್ರರ್ಕ್ಕತಾರಂಬರ[೦] ಸಲಿಸುತ್ತಮಿರೆ ನೆಲ್ಲೂರಪಟ್ಟಣದೊ-

5        ಳು ಸುಖಸಂಕಥಾ ವಿನೋದದಿಂ ರಾಜ್ಯಂಗೆಯ್ಯುತ್ತಿರ್ದ್ದು ದಿಗ್ವಿಜಯಾ

1      The inscription is followed by the Telugu and Tamil versions of which the latter,
        besides mentioning the other details, adds that Sōmēśvara and Mallidēva were the
        sons of Vimalāditya and that the inscription was engraved during the reign of
        Kulōttuṅga.
