BANTAKALLU, UDIPI TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Hero stone set up in a grove by the roadside

Circa 14th century

The record, in characters of about the 14th century, registers an agreement between Kunda-heggaḍe and Kinnikka-heggaḍe who were administering Yermmuḷa on one side and the Mūḍila-paksha, the nāḍu, the baḷi and their 5000 followers on the other side. It refers to the dishonouring of Pāṇḍyappoḍeya of Kārakaḷa and mentions Pādūru and Uḷadūru. It is dated the cyclic year Śōbhakṛi and other details are not given.

TEXT

1 [ಶೋ]ಭಕ್ರತು ಸಂವತ್ಸರದ[ಲು*] | ನಿಡುಬುರ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಕುಂದಹೆಗ್ಗಡೆ

2 ಕಿಂನಿಕ್ಕ ಹೆಗ್ಗಡೆಯವರು ವೊಂದಾಗಿ ಯೆರ್ಮ್ಮುಳ ಮೇಲೆ ರಾಜಕಾರ್ಯ

3 ವನು ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿ ನಾಡುಬಳಿ ಅಯಿದು ಸಾವಿರಾಳು ಸಹವಾಗಿ ಸೂರಾ-

4 ಲ ಮನೆಯಿಂದ ಬೆ[ಳು]ನಾಡ ಮನೆತನಕ ಮುಡಿಲ ಪಕ್ಷದವರು ಕೂಡಿ ಕಾರೆ-
