ASIA CENTRE seeks to promote political, economic, technological cultural and social exchanges with countries of Asia, thereby creating new synergies to meet emerging challenges of the new millennium. It is a multi disciplinary organisation drawing its members from former policy makers, academics defence officers, development bankers and captains of industry. The center provides a platform for the free exchange of ideas and analysis leading to policy inputs for leaders in government, businesses and civil society.

Programming over the years

In 2008, the Annual lecture was held on 10th January on the topic   India in the Space Age” by  Dr K Kasturirangan. On 22nd March a seminar was held on “ Complexities of the Situation in Iran: India’s Strategic Interests and Options”.

In 2007, in January a lecture cum discussion was conducted by Shri Shyam Saran, former Foreign Secretary, to discuss the “Present Status of the Indo- US Nuclear Deal – Is it a Boon or Bane?” In July a seminar was held on developments in Myanmar . In September a seminar was conducted to study the impediments to India ’s “Look East Policy” A seminar was held on 8th December on the subject “ India – Russia Strategic Relations in the New World Order”.  

 In 2006, seminars were held on “Recent Developments in Nepal ”, “Changing Contours of Indo- US Relations” and “Strengthening the Peace Process in Sri Lanka ”. The annual lecture was delivered by Gen V P Malik (Retd), former Army Chief, on “The Kargil War and Its Impact on Indo-Pak Relations”  

In 2005, a series of studies  were conducted to evaluate the security environment in South Asian Region. Lt Gen Satish Nambiar (Retd) delivered the Annual Lecture for the year on “The Proposed Restructuring of The U N O”.      

In 2004, Asia Centre held a series of lectures and discussions on the Bay of Bengal rim countries culminating in the Annual Lecture on “India and China- Challenges and Opportunities” by Mr C V Ranganathan, former Ambassador to China.

 

In December 2003, a Track II Dialogue on “Strengthening the Peace Process in Sri Lanka ” was held with members of South Asian Perspectives Network Association (SAPNA), a well-known NGO in Sri Lanka . The discussions were held over two days at Bangalore.

In 2002 a seminar were conducted on “ India and China : Challenges of Globalisation” in which issues arising out of the Global Competitiveness Reports of the World Economic Forum were discussed.

During 2001, Asia Centre conducted a series of seminars on the Indian Ocean Region  to review the political, strategic and economic aspects of the area.
