paraphrase the passage by Maitrakâṇâm (i.e. Maitrakêshu) Bhaṭârkô bhavat, or supply the word
vaṁśê after Maitrakâṇâm,1 it is now evident that Bhaṭârka, the ancestor of the Valabhî
kings, himself belonged to the family or tribe of the Maitrakas.2
