KUḶĀI, MANGALORE TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab set up in the prākāra of the Durgā-Paramēśvari temple

Harihara II, 1398 A.D.

This record is dated Śaka 1320, Īśvara, Māgha 1, Sunday corresponding to 1398 A.D., January 20, Sunday, f.d.t. .80. The Śaka year, however, was current.

It records gifts of land to the temple of Puḷupinadēva at Chitrapura, by Gōpīnātha-sēnabova and Kēśavanātha-śēnabōva, sons of Bāchapa-sēnabōva, who purchased the same from Malapa-seṭṭi, son of Padumaṇṇa-seṭṭi for that purpose. It also specifies the amount of paddy, obviously produced from the endowed land, to be distributed to several deities probably consecrated within the temple and states that the income in excess of the specified quantity might be enjoyed by the by the two donors. The land was made free from payment of siddāya. Varadēndratīrtha-śrīpāda was to maintain this charity (probably the sattra) in the Durgādēvi temple at Chitrapura. The record states that Haḍapada Mādarasa, son of Paṇḍaridēva was governing Mangalūru-rājya.
