TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS
No. 23
(A. R. No. 69 of 1941-42)
RĀCHĀNAPALLE, ANANTAPUR TALUK, ANANTAPUR DISTRICT
Slab set up near a well on the road side
Vikramāditya VI, 1120 A.D.
This inscription refers itself to the reign of Tribhuvanamalla ruling from Jayantīpura. It is dated Chāḷukya-Vikrama year 45,
Śārvari, Jyēshṭha-amāvāsye, Sunday, solar eclipse, The given details
are irregular. Jyēshṭha-amāvāsya did not occur on a Sunday in the year
Śārvari, nor was there a solar eclipse in that month. But if the month
is a mistake for Āśvina, the details regularly correspond to 1120 A.D.,
October 24.
The record registers gifts of land, garden, an oil-mill for a lamp,
four houses of which one was meant for the oil-mill and betel leaves,
to god Mallikārjunadēva of Redimalli, the capital of Kuḍiyape-40, by
mahāmaṇḍalēśvara Kētamallarasa, and mahāmaṇḍalēśvara Mummaḍi
Chōḷarasa. The gift was made over to Mallikārjuna-paṇḍita.
Of the donors, the first, Raviyarasa bearing the epithet
Ayōdhyāpuravarādhīśvara is described as the son-in-law of
Bhuvanaikamalla-mahārāja, while the second Kētamallarasa, bears the
epithet Oreyūr puravarādhīśvara and eulogised by the characteristic
Telugu-Chōḷa praśasti commencing with Aridurddhara-vara° etc.
