(A. R. No. 354 of 1934-35)

HAMPI, HOSPET TALUK, BELLARY DISTRICT

Southern door-way into the central shrine of pampāpati temple

Kṛishṇadēvarāya, 1513 A.D.

This record registers a gift of several villages (the names of which are enumerated), free of taxes, to god Virūpākshdēva for worship and offerings and conducting several festivals, by the king for the merit off his father Narasaṅanāyaka-oḍeya and mother Nāgājī. The gift was made on the occasion of a solar eclipse.

It is dated Śaka 1435, Śrīmukha, Chaitra śu. 5. In the absence of the weekday the deatails cannot be verified. But a solar eclipse did occur five days earlier, i.e., on 1513 A.D., March 7, Monday on which day the gift was actually made. The record mifght have been engraved five days later, on 1513 A.D., March 12.
