TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

(A. R. No. 490 of 1928-29)

NĪLĀVARA, UDIPI TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab set up in the prākāra of the Mahishāsuramardini temple

Vīra-Pāṇḍyadēva, 1258 A.D.

This record is dated Śaka 1181, Piṅgaḷa, Phālguṇa ba. 5, Mīna 1, Sunday. The cyclic year given coincides with Śaka 1179 when the details of date correspond to 1258 A.D., February 24.

It records an order by the king when he was holding assembly in his hiriy-aramane at Bāraha-kanyāpura, with maiduna Voḍḍamadēva, Narasiṅga-heggaḍe, the purōhitas and all other ministers, stipulating that the three hundred mahājanas of Niruvāra were to pay annually 100 gadyāṇas to the king, 30 to the adhikāri and 301 gadyāṇas to the village. It also seems to say that this order would apply to the three villages, Kōṭa, Braṁāra (i.e. Brahmāvara) and Kōṭēśvara.

1 ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿಶ್ರೀ ಗಣಾಧಿಪತಯೇನಮಃ ಶ್ರೀಮತು

2 [ಪಾಂಡ್ಯಚಕ್ರವತ್ತಿ] ಯ[ರಿ]ರಾಯ ಗಜಕೇಸರಿ

3 [ಶ್ರೀ] ವೀರಪಾಂಡ್ಯದೇವಾಳ್ಪೇಂದ್ರದೇವರಸರ ವಿಜೆಯ

4 ರಾಜ್ಯಮುತ್ತರೋತ್ತರಂ ಪ್ರವರ್ದ್ಧಮಾನಮಾಚಂ-

5 ದ್ರಾರ್ಕ್ಕತಾರಂಬರಂ ಸಲುತ್ತಮಿರಲು ಸಕವರ್ಷ

6 1181 ನೆಯ ಪಿಂಗಳ ಸಂವತ್ಸರದ ಫಾಲ್ಗುಣ

7 ಬ 5 ಆದಿವಾರದಲು ಕಂನ್ನೆಯಲು ಬ್ರಿಹಸ್ಪತಿ [ಮಿರ್ದ್ದು]
