No. 225

(A. R. No. 527 of 1929-30)

KURUNĀḌU, MANGALORE TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab set up in the second prākāra of the Sōmanāthēśvara temple

[Baṅkidēva], 1296 A.D.

This damaged record refers to Baṁkidēvarasa who may probably be the Āḷupa chief and other officials who met in the hiriya-aramane (big palace) at Maṅgaḷūru. It seems to register a gift, the purport of which is not however, clear.

If may be assigned on palaeographical grounds to about the 13th century is dated the cyclic year Durmukhi, Siṁha 27, Thursday. The tithi corresponds to 1296 A.D., August 24. The weekday, however was Thursday, falling in the reign period of Baṅkidēva.

1       A fragmentary record lying closely and engraved in characters of a slightly later period and therefore
probably not connected with the above contains portion of the imprecatory verses which reads :

1    . . . . . . . .

2    . . . . . . . . ನ್ಯೋಯಂ ಧರ್ಮ್ಮ

3    . . . . . . . . ಯೋಭವದ್ಧಿ ಸರ್ವ್ವಾನೇತಾಂಭಾ

4    . . . . . . . .
