TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS No. 242 (A. R. No. 526 of 1928-29) VARĀṄGA, KARKAL TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT Slab set up in the front verandah of the Nēmīśvara-basti [Kulaśēkhara] The earlier part of this undated record, in characters of about the 14th century, contains an eulogy of Jaina preceptors, Maladhāridēva, Mādhavachandra, Prabhāchandra, and Nēmichandra of Mūla-saṁgha, Konḍakund-ānvaya, and krānūr-gaṇa. The latter part gives the genealogy of the Aḷuvas from Pāṇḍya-paṭṭiyoḍeya, his son Kaviyāḷu, his son Kulaśekharāḷuva, who had three sons Nūrmaḍi-chakravarti, Vīra-bhūpāḷa and Kuṇḍaṇa alias Paṇḍita-Pāṇḍya. It states that Jākalamādēvi, wife of Kulaśēkharāḷuva had a tank built at Varāṅga. The record announces a gift of land earlier made by a person called Varāṅga, by Kuṇḍaṇa. The record is composed in Kannaḍa verse.
