TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

ŚRĪŚAILAM, NANDIKOTKUR TALUK, KURNOOL DISTRICT

Bell hung in a niche in the ghanṭā-maṭham

Piriyarājayyadēva, 1591 A.D.

       The record states that the bell was the gift by Piriyarājayyadēva, king of Nañjarāyapaṭṭaṇa, son of Śrīkaṇṭharājayya and Vallabhājamma, for their merit and that of Vīrarājayya and all others of the Chaṅgāḷva family. The king is stated to have belonged to Sōma-vaṁśa, Ṛik-śākha and Hārita-gōtra.

       It is dated Śaka 1512, Vikṛiti, Māgha śu. 15, the tithi corresponding to 1591 A.D., January 29. The details are not verifiable.

Slab set up in a dolmen

Dēvarāja-bhūpāla, [1611 A.D. ?]

       The record registers a royal gift of the village Viṇṇapaḷḷi renamed Ñañjanagūḍa-Dēvarāyapura, situated in Ukkarada-hōbaḷi of Uḍuvaṁka-nāḍu in Satyamaṅgala along with the hamlets (upa-grāma) attached to it and other hamlets attached to two other villages situated in Karavaḷi and Mēlumukha hobaḷis,to several brāhmaṇas of different gōtras, sūtras and śākhas. For this purpose the gift land was divided

1       To the right of the inscription are engraved labelled figures of Śrī Kaṁtharāja
         and Vallabhājamma respectively and below them in a horizontal posture that of
         Piriyarāja.
