TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

(A. R. No. 576 of 1929-30)

KOḌAVŪRU, UDIPI TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Stone set up near the entrance into Vaḍabaṇḍēśvara (Balarāma) temple

1385 A.D.

It registers a gift (of land where the stone was originally set up?) in Kani-bayalu to god Oḍabaṇḍa-dēva by Śaṅkara-chaṅkyara . The record, in characters of about the 14th century, is dated the cyclic year Raktākshi, Hangu (Paṅguṇi ?)27, Tuesday, probably corresponding to 1335 A.D., March 22, Wednesday which might be the intended date.

1 ಶ್ರೀ ಮತು ರಂಕ್ತಾಕ್ಷಿ ಸಂಹ-

2 ಛರದ ಹಂಗು ತಿಂಗಳು ಯಿಪ-

3 ತಯೇಳು ಹೋಹ ಮಂಗಳವರದ-

4 ಲು ಸಂಕರ ಚಂಕ್ಯರರ ಮಗ

5 ಕಣಿ ಬಯಲಲಿ ಒಡಬರಂ-

6 ಡ ದೇವನಿಗೆ ಯೆರದೆ ಧರ್ಮ

BANGRAKULURU, MANGALORE TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab built into the ground near a well in a field

1390 A.D.

This worn out record is dated Śaka 1311, Śukla, Mīna 3, Sunday corresponding to 1390 A.D., Februuary 26 when the week-day was Saturday.

It seems to register gifts of land probably to god MaÃ±janāthadēva.
