TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

(A. R. No. 492 of 1928-29)

NĪLĀVARA, UDIPI TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab (No. 3) set up in the prākāra of Mahishāsuramardini temple

Vīra-Ballāḷa III, 1333 A.D.

This inscription records the exemption from taxes on lands (?) at Nirūvāra, (also referred to as Nirunāra and Nīrāvāra), in favour of the goddess Durgā-Bhagavati of the village by Mahāpradhāna Vayijappa-daṇṇāyaka, Ajaṁṇa-sāhaṇi, the fourteen of the place, and others in the presence of the chief queen Chikkāyi-Tāyi. Nāgarasa is referred to perhaps as an officere-in-charge of the taxes.

The record is dated Śaka 1255, Āṁgīrasa, Phālguṇa, ba. 10, Mīna 16, Thursday corresponding to 1333 A.D., March 11. The Śaka year was current.

1 ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತು ಶಕವರುಶ 1255 ನೆಯ ಆಂಗಿರಸ ಸಂವ –

2 ತ್ಸರದ ಫಾಲ್ಗುಣ ಬ 10 ಮೀನಮಾಸ 16 ಗುರುವಾರದಂ –

3 ದು ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತು ಪಾಂಡ್ಯ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತ್ತಿ ಅರಿರಾಯ ಬ-

4 ಸವಸಂಖರ ರಾಯಗಜಾಂಕುಸ ಶ್ರೀಮತ್ಪ್ರತಾಪ –

5 ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತ್ತಿ ಹೊಯಿಸಣ ಶ್ರೀ[ವೀ]ರಬಲ್ಲಾಳ ದೇವರ್ಸರ

6 ಪಟ್ಟದ ಪಿರಿಯರಸಿ ಚಿಕ್ಕಾಯಿ ತಾಯಿಗಳ ಶ್ರೀ –

7 ಪಾದ ಸಂನಿಧಿಯಲು ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿ ಶ್ರೀಮನು ಮಹಾಪ್ರ –

8 ಧಾನ ವಯಜಪ್ಪ ದಂಣ್ನಾಯಕರು ಅಜಂಣಸಾಹಣಿಯರೂ ಸ –

9 ಮಸ್ತ ಪ್ರಧಾ[ನರು] ಬಹತ್ತರ ನಿಯೋಗಂಗಳೂ ಎರಡು ಕೋ –

10 ಲಬಳಿ ಮುಂತಾಗಿ ನೀರಾವಾರದ ಗ್ರಾ . . ಹದಿನಾ[ಲ್ಕೂ] ತಂ[ಮಿ] –

11 . [ವ] ಏಕಸ್ತರಾಗಿ ನಿರುವಾರದ ದುರ್ಗ್ಗಾಭಗವತಿಗೆ ನಿರುವಾ –

12 ರದ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲು ಮೂಱಧಿವಾಸದೊಳಗೆ . ಗ ಬಾಳಿ .

13 ಗ . . 10 ಱ ನಾಗರಸನು ಅತಿಕಾ –

14 ರದಲು ಸರ್ವ್ವಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಕಾದರು || ಸ್ವದತ್ತಂ

15 ಪರದತ್ತಂ ವಾ ಯೋ ಹ[ರೇ]ತ ವಸುಂಧರಾ [ಪ] –

16 ಷ್ಟಿ ರ್ವ್ವರುಷ ಸಹಸ್ರಾಣಿ ವಿಷ್ಟಾಯಾಂ ಜಾ –

17 ಯತೇ ಕ್ರಿಮಿ || ಯಿಧರ್ಮ್ಮ[ಕ್ಕಾರಾ]ದರು ಆಳಪಿ –

18 ದವರು ವಾರಣಾಸಿಯಲು ಅನಂತಕವಿಲೆಯ

19 ಕೊಂದವರು . . ದುರ್ಗ್ಗಾಭಗವತಿಯ ಚಲಿಸಿದ –
