TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

(A. R. No. 324 of 1931-32)

SURĀLA, UDIPI TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab set up in the compound of Mahāliṇgēśvara temple

1451 A.D.

This is dated Śaka 1370 (current), Prajōtpatti, Chaitra śu. 1, Thursday. The details are slightly irregular. The cyclic year given corresponded to Śaka 1373 (expired) when the tithi occurred on 1451 A. D., March 4. In Śaka 1370, Vibhava, the tithi occurred on 1448 A.D., March 6 when the week-day was Wednesday. The former, therefore, appears to be the intended date.

It registers a gift of land by Bemmiseṭṭy for feeding seven brahmiṇas in the maṭha attached to the temple of Mahādēva of Sūrāla, during the time of Nāgañcha Toḷaha and his younger brother Bemmaṇañcha Toḷaha.

1 ಶ್ರೀ ಗಣಾಧಿಪತಯೇಂ ನಮಃ [||*] ನಮಸ್ತುಂಗ ಸಿರಃ

2 ಚುಂಬಿ ಚಂದ್ರಚಾಮರ ಚಾರವೇ ತ್ರಯಿಲೋಕ್ಯ ನಗರಾರಂಭಂ ಮೂಲಸ್ತಂಭಾಯ
ಶಂ-

3 ಭವೇ[||*] ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿಶ್ರೀ ಜಯಾಭ್ಯುದಯ ಶಕವರುಶ 1370 ನೆಯ ನಡವ
ವರ್ತಮಾನ ವೆವಹಾರಿಕ ಪ್ರಜೋ-

4 ತ್ಪತ್ಯ ಸಂವತ್ಭರದ ಚಯಿತ್ರ ಸು 1 ಗುರುವಾರದಲು ಶ್ರೀಮತು ಸಕಲಗುಣ
ಸಂಪಂನರಪ್ಪ ನಾಗಂ-

5 ಚ ತೊಳಹರ ಕಾಲದಲಿ ಅವರತಂಮ ಬೆಂಮಣಂಚರು ಕುಮಾರವೃತ್ತಿಯ ನಡವ

6 ದಲಿ ಸೂರಾಲ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಹಾದೇವರ ಸಂನಿಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲುವಳಿರ ಬಂದು ಮಂದ

7 [ಸ]ಲುವಳಿಯ ಬೆಂಮಿಸೆಟ್ಟಿ ಯೇಳುಮಂದಿ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರಿಗೆ ದಿನಚರಿಯದಲು

8 ದೆಯಲಿ ಆಚಂದ್ರಾರ್ಕ್ಕವಾಗಿ ಬರಸಿದ ಶಿಲಾಶಾಸನದ ಕ್ರಮವೆಂತೆಂದರೆ ಯೀ
ಧಂ[ರ್ಮ]ಕೆ ಬಿಟ ಬಾಳ

9 [ಕೊಟಿತಿ] ಬಳದ ಒಳಗೆ ಬೆಂಮಿಸೆಟಿ ತೊಳಹರ ಕೈಯಲಿ ಮೂಲವ ಕೊಂಡಬಾಳಿನ
