TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

(A. R. No. 460 of 1928-29)

KUḌUPU, MANGALORE TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

On two pieces of a broken slab set up in the outer prākara of Anantapadmanābhasvāmin temple

Bukka I, 1375 A.D.

This record is dated Śaka 1297, Rākshasa, Kārttika śu 1, Thursday, corresponding to 1375 A.D., October 25, Thursday, f.d.t.-35.

The inscription records that when Paṇḍaridēva was governing Maṅgaḷūru-rājya, the king endowed the two villages Kuḍupu and Mālūru, with rights of ownership (oḍetana) and exemption of the taxes saṭṭu and beḍige to Vidyāraṇya-ārīpāda of Śriṅgēri, in turn, set apart the income, in cash and in kind, from these two villages for worship and offerings in the temples of Śaṅkara and Rāmanāthadēva for the feeding of twelve brāhmaṇas in the temple at Kuḍupu.

1 ಶ್ರೀ ನಮಸ್ತುಂಗ ಶಿರಶ್ಚುಂಬಿ ಚಂದ್ರಚಾಮರ ಚಾರವೇ ತ್ರೈಲೋಕ್ಯ ನಗ –

2 ರಾರಂಭ ಮೂಲಸ್ತಂಭಾಯ ಶಂಭವೇ || ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಶಕವರುಷ 1297

3 ಕ್ಷಸ ಸಂವತ್ಸರದ ಕಾರ್ತ್ತಿಕ ಸು 1 ಗು ಶ್ರೀಮನು ಮಹಾರಾಜಾಧಿರಾಜ

4 ಸ್ವರ ಶ್ರೀವೀರ ಬುಕ್ಕರಾಯ ರಾಜ್ಯಾಭ್ಯುದಯ ರಾಯನ ನಿರೂಪದಿಂದ ಪಂಡ-

5 ರಿದೇವಂಗಳು ಮಂಗಲೂರ ರಾಜ್ಯವನಾಳುವ ಕಾಲದಲಿ ರಾಯನು ಸಿಂಗೇ –

6 ರಿಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರಂಣ್ಯಂ ಶ್ರೀ ಪಾದಂಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಮರ್ಪ್ಪಿಸಿದ ಧರ್ಮದ ಕ್ರಮವೆಂತ-

7 ೦ದತಾ ಕುಡುಪಿನ ದೇವಾಲ್ಯದಲು ಯತಿಗಳು ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ[ಜನ*]
