[1] The aksharas susu are engraved here before ma (which Chakravarti reads as me), although their proper
place is at the beginning of the previous line.
[2] Barua : Devānaṁpirasa.
[3] The following four aksharas, which are incised below the concluding part of the line, have to be read from
right to left. What has been read hevaṁ may be hem-eva also.
[4] Chakravarti : ºyātha.
[5] Sahni and Chakravarti : kārunakāni.
[6] Chakravarti ends the sentence after cha. Chakravarti and others read tuphe here as well as in X above.
[7] The following two aksharas are engraved at the beginning of the next line (line 21), ya being at a higher
level than sa.
[8] This letter stands at the end of line 20(a).
[9] The following three aksharas, at the end of line 20(a)-(c), have to be read from right to left.
[10] The aksharas yasa engraved here before yathā should have to be read at the beginning of the previous line.
[11] Sahni : apachāyanāya vā āchariyasa [he]meva se yathā vā puna āchariyasa, etc.; Barua : apachāyanā ya va
sava me āchariyasa yathāchārina āchariyasa [ | *]
[12] Barua : nātikesu which is the word found in the Mysore versions of the edict.
[13] The damaged akshara sa, incised before aṁ, should have to be read at the next line. This
escaped the notice of Sahni, Barua and Chakravarti.
[14] This akshara is engraved at the beginning of the previous line. Sahni and Chakravarti : tiroke ; Barua :
aroke.
[15] This line has to be read from right to left.
