EPIGRAPHIA INDICA REMARK. (1) G. ºdhamam. TRANSLATION. “ Success ! This cave, a pious gift of Râmaṇaka, son of the writer Sivamita.” No. 17, Plate viii. (N. 4). On the back wall of the veranda in Cave No. 12. TEXT.
1 Velîdâtaputasa (1) nekamasa Râmaṇakasa
REMARKS. (1) G. ºdataº ; AS. Velidataº.─ (2) G. and AS. châtudiº. TRANSLATION. “ Success ! This cave, a pious gift of the merchant Râmaṇaka, son of Velîdâta, from Chhâkalepa, bestowed on the universal Saṁgha of monks generally ; and by the same have been given as a perpetual endowment one-hundred─ 100─ kâhâpaṇas in the hands of the Saṁgha. Out of this a cloth money of twelve kâhâpaṇas is to be given to the ascetic who keeps the vassa (here).” Chhâkalepa or Chhâlalepa, a village or a town, a region or a clan, has not yet been identified ; on chîvarika and the sum of twelve kârshâpaṇas, either as interest for an investment of one-hundred kârshâpaṇas, or as the amount of the chîvarika, compare above, No. 12. No. 18, Plate V. (N. 3). On the back wall of the veranda in Cave No. 17. TEXT.
