INSCRIPTIONS OF THE PARAMARAS OF MALWA
MANDHATA COPPER-PLATE INSCRIPTION OF DEVAPALA

Second Plate ; First Side

___________________
[1] The numerical figure denoting the share is sometimes followed by a daṇḍa, as here, while often not so.
I have retained the original arrangement, as also said above.
[2] The seven aksharas showing the gōtra were originally omitted and are engraved above the line. Here
again the pravaras are omitted.
[3] For trivēda. or trivēdin, here and below.
[4] It is Prakrit or local form of Yaśōdhara.
[5] In place of the penultimate letter some other akshara appears to have been wrongly engraved, or there
may have been some chisel strokes. The second letter of the gōtra was originally engraved as va and later
on corrected.
[6] For paṇḍita, here and below. The daṇḍa is redundant.
[7] The śākhās are omitted here.
[8] Below in 11. 47 and 49. this word is spelt as Mutāvathū, obviously a corrupt form of Muktāvasthu.
[9] For chaturvēda or –vēdin, here and below
[10] For agnihōtrin, here and below.
[11] For ṭhakkura, here and below.
[12] Read श्र्पाप्नवान. The last letter is wrongly marked halanta. Also read श्र्पौर्व.
[13] The name, which consisted of four aksharas as to be known from the four top-strokes, is omitted here.
[14] Read सांख्यायन, or, more correctly. शांखायन
[15] Read श्र्पौतथ्येति. The second and the third letters of the gōtra that follows appear to be overwritten.
[16] For dvivēda, or dvivēdin, here and below.
[17] Originally the first akshara of the name was engraved as gāṁ and subsequently the mātrā was erased.
